Treatment Options

In our experience, patients are better able to manage their problems associated with sleep disorders, when they fully understand the different treatment options available to them. The chapters that follow point out the various options available to the patient suffering from sleep disorders associated with breathing.
Treatment with oral appliances is a less invasive customized alternative solution and recommended for many disorders of breathing during sleep, such as snoring and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA).
Treatment with oral appliance
The CPAP device has saved the lives of thousands of people, suffering from sleep apnea. Unfortunately many doctors recommending this as the sole treatment option, without notifying the alternative treatment with oral appliance.
Treatment with CPAP
Surgery treatment is an option of obstructive sleep apnea, but it is quite painful and often unsuccessful. Recommended as a combination therapy with the others, for correction ENT problems that contribute to breathing obstruction.
Surgical Treatment
Bruxism is extreme clenching or grinding of the teeth. An occlusal splint (nightguard), which made of hard moulded plastic, is worn at night and prevents the patient from causing further wear to their teeth surfaces.

Diagnosis

If you suspect that you or a loved one suffers from snoring or any other type of sleep disorder (associated with breathing problems), we highly recommend a self-evaluation test.
Oftentimes, the results from those preliminary tests provide a pretty good picture of whether or not the patient suffers from a sleep disorder(s).  However, even if you "pass" all self-evaluation tests, it does not necessarily rule out the possibility that you have obstructive sleep apnea!
Depending upon your individual results, you may then consider whether it is necessary to contact us at our office. The only true way to diagnose and correctly evaluate the sleep problems is through a hospital sleep study, called a polysomnogram (PSG).
 For more information, see:

Diagnosis - Exams

If you snore or have daytime sleepiness and fatigue, then you probably need medical help.
Due to the complexity of the matter, select a specialist that consists of an experienced team of doctors ENT, Pneumonology and Dentist.

Epworth Test

The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is commonly used to assess the level of sleepiness that someone feels.
The test results are indicative and are not a diagnostic method.

Sleep study clinics

For sleep study test, you will go to a sleep lab that is set up for overnight stays, usually in a hospital or sleep center or for a home sleep study.

Online Sleep Apnea Test

This online test is not medical advice; it can be used as a guide. If you think that you may have a sleep disorder, contact a specialist in sleep medicine that can assist you. In this test check the answer that applies to you, click send and we will anser.
